Which Apartment Floor is The Best?

Hey renters, I’m Kellen Coak, trade services manager at Rent.com There are a lot of things to consider when looking for a new apartment. But which floor in an apartment building is the best? Top, middle, bottom? Let’s find out. You’re on top of the world! You rarely have to deal with outside noise and you don’t have anyone above you to disturb you. Plus you get a pretty sweet view from the top. One pissue is that heat does rise, so you might have a higher AC bill during those warmer summer months. If you have a bunch heavy groceries, you won’t have to trek up all those stairs to get to your apartment. Now there is the con of having outside noise, but you do get the plus of not having to worry about disturbing anyone below you. When you live on a middle floor, you won’t have to hike up all those stairs, and you won’t have any of the noisy street traffic. Plus, since temperatures tend to stay the same, you won’t have a high heating or AC bill. For some, the middle is just right. What floor you decide to live on is up to you and your needs. Top floor, bottom floor is easier for a robber to get to.

The top is the best, if you never lived with someone above you, believe me, it is annoying and you are stuck in your lease.

I've lived on the top, middle and bottom floors. After experiencing problems from each level, I would say my preferred is the bottom floor. I hate walking on tip toes around my apartment and love the convenience of being able to walk around comfortably without worrying about disturbing my neighbor. Only downside is having an upstairs neighbor who lives as if he or she is on the bottom floor disturbing my peace. If the neighbor is considerate, the noise can be much tolerable. It's definitely a trade off to having ease of access into my apartment without having to go up several flights of stairs everyday (hauling groceries and move in and move out day are the worst!). As for break ins, any apartment is capable of being broken into. Just have to take extra safety precautions wherever you live.

1st floor = people blaring music in their cars at all hours, no privacy because everyone can see inside your house (when you're changing and sleeping you have to close your blinds), everyone's kids squealing while running up and down the hall to the elevators, easiest floor to rob, landscapers blowing crud on your balcony (even spaying mud all over balcony gardens), landscaper's crazy loud leaf blowers every week for hours … you only have to live on the first floor once to know NEVER AGAIN, lol
