Section 8 Tenants From Hell Damaged My Section8 Rentals $13,000

– [Jeff] Okay, so here we are at 5929 and this is our Section 8
tenant had moved out of here. And, of course, it’s
filthy floor, filthy walls, that’s typical of your Section 8 tenants, after they move out you’ll have
to repaint the entire walls. Over here in the living room, you can see the carpeting is just stained to the point that even Stanley
Steemer can’t clean it. And any time, of course, you see red, you know that ain’t
coming up no matter what, so these carpets are absolutely totaled and rendered useless, they’ll have to be pulled up and replaced. And the stairs are
absolutely filthy, of course. They left junk and debris all over and I don’t know how
this could happen here, chipped wood on the bottom of the stairs. And let’s not forget the lovely dining room chandelier
chain that they broke. [Man] No chandelier, period. – [Jeff] And they left their
abandoned mirror sitting here. Here for the sliding glass door, there’s several of the slats are missing and you could tell that
they had ripped down several other ones because
they put them on upside down, typical morons, with no brains whatsoever. And, of course, let’s
not forget the classic, the very classic hanging rope. And going up the stairs here, plenty of debris left, they didn’t do any kind of cleaning or vacuuming here whatsoever. And my personal favorite, here, they came in here and painted this room and, of course, there’s
purple and blue paint all over the carpet and that lovely chirp
there means the idiots never changed the battery
in the smoke detector and this’ll go down in history here as the world’s worst paint job ever. Don’t know why they decided
to make half the room purple and the other half blue,
that’s a new one on me and, of course, paint all over the place. Here we just pulled the smoke
detector out of the ceiling, there’s no battery. No wonder it was chirping. Please, folks, do not attempt this at home with your own bathtub. This is the kids’ bathroom and
look how filthy this tub is. They let their kids bathe in this filth. Cleaned or anything here. And even though I gave them a
year’s supply of air filters, so it didn’t cost them a penny, they never changed the air filter on the air conditioner and look at this. Gunk up the yin-yang. No wonder the AC didn’t work. And, of course, in the bedroom here, what bedroom would be complete without the obligatory hole in the door? Undoubtedly from one of their many fights that they had in here. With her loser boyfriend living here. And here you can see the
door jamb in the bathroom. How do you break marble? That’s an unknown mystery there. And look how filthy this bathroom sink is. Looks to me like they bathed
the dog and themselves in here. Just garbage everywhere. And I don’t even know how you do this, but look at the switch, cracked. So, the rest of the room is meh, carpet’s filthy, probably
won’t be able to clean it, we’re gonna have to
pull this carpet up too. And big stains everywhere. These are stains that won’t
come out with Stanley Steemer. You can try, try ’til the cows come home, ain’t gonna come out. These carpets gotta come up. Debris. And, of course, the washer and dryer. What Section 8 washer and dryer would be complete without
rust and stains and stuff? Just lovely, just lovely. So you’re looking at probably 70-80 hours worth of work to clean up this mess. So, if you’re ever thinking about renting to a Section 8 tenant, folks, this is what you can look forward to. Still want to do it? So let’s take one last look
down the hallway carpet here, just lovely. Looks like the landfill. I don’t know how somebody
could live in this, this is just disgusting. And we know her boyfriend was living here, which is against the Section 8 rules. That’s a felony, by the way. You’re not supposed to have
your deadbeat boyfriend living in your place when you got American public paying for your rent. We’re in the living room,
this is a new one on me, I don’t know how in the world you get these holes in the ceiling. And then here in the
cubby under the stairs, blue paint everywhere, undoubtedly from where
they stored the blue paint that they used in the upstairs room. Heck, if they were gonna dump blue paint on the carpet up there, they shoulda just stored it up there. And here’s another
wonderful hole in the wall in the living room, about
six feet up in the air. Don’t know how in the world you get that. Some of these things have
just got to be deliberate because I don’t see how
any normal human being, under normal usage, can put
a hole like that in a wall. Okay, so here we are back at the AC, this is gonna be a two-hour
clean up job, right here, because of the amount of gook. And what I do is, while it’s drying, it’s that caked on, I use
this little tool here, which is a coil cleaning
tool that you can buy at Home Depot or Lowe’s and you do, what you do here is you gently run it up like you’re combing your hair. You just run it up the coils
and it scrapes off some of the, the big chunks and the big tumbleweeds. Okay, so now we vacuumed it out, I shake up my can real
well, of the coil cleaner and you just spray the
foam all over the coil. Give it a good, thick coating of foam and the vacuum action
of the air conditioner will actually suck the foam
right into the slots there, between the coils. So it’ll get nice and wet there and it’ll loosen up all that
dirt and then we’ll be able to brush the remainder
out in a few minutes. But see how the vacuum just
sucks it all up in there? Here we are in the master bedroom. This is the new door that we had to buy to replace the one that somehow punched a hole in at the top of it. (“Every Breath You Take” by The Police) Still have to roll up
the paint on this wall, a little higher up. Here’s the Bagster that we had to rent to pull all the stuff out in. Here you can see we already started to paint some of these walls here. And as you can see, the
rest of the kitchen walls, still pretty filthy. – [Man On Radio] And then I say, Yeah, but is Verizon 4G
LTE really that fast? And he says, yep, up to
10 times faster than 3G. And now I’m going, they’re going for two. – [Woman On Radio] Come to Verizon for the largest selection
of 4G LTE devices. Verizon 4G LTE, over 100.

That carpet is not that bad. I’ve had tenants do way worse and got it close to the same condition before the section8 tenant lived there.

I dont know why your putting sec 8 people down not all sec 8 people are like that. Every appartment in ny must be repainted between renters or every 5 years. I know people on sec 8 that pay more than 900.00 in rent after sec 8 pays there part.

You insult all Section 8 tenants as being filthy. I resent that! I've been in a HUD home for years and love my landlord. HE tells me if all his tenants were like me and( one other he has) he'd never have any problems. You sir, are an idiot! You can't judge tenants by your mistake in selecting a bad tenant! I wish my landlord had provided me with a washer/dryer/fridge & Stove. HE'd never leave any filters for me, but comes in monthly to change it himself. His rules are no nails in walls (I use those elastic tape grips to hold pictures onto walls.) That is one filthy home – keep in mind even people who own their own homes can be just as nasty! Don't blame your poor choices on tenants on the tenants. Ify ou'd ever rent to me, I"d take you to task for your own failures! How dare you insult all of us! You call every Section 8 a "typical moron!" You truly are an idiot for not enforcing some kind of rules, for not going thru on an inspection yearly with the city inspectors for HUD.

that’s funny

We had a lot worse from renters who didn't have section 8; didn't pay electric, left the with lice, bedbugs, roaches, left behind their animal feces and bedbug infested bedding and furniture. Pet poop on the hardwood floors, open alcohol containers filled the floors and stacked. Holes walls and ceilings. Horrible! We've also had a section 8 family for about 10 years who have keep the house nice, they've been able to keep the same carpet the whole time and we don't have come in to carpet clean, we don't have to come in and repair walls or paint. We have had to flush the oil heat line and light the pilot, that's about the worst of it with that family. Both units had children in them. So, though I understand section 8 is much riskier, maybe find someone who has plans on staying longer than a year or something, but again this is of the heart and the mind, not the form of payment

I think it's terrible how you knew all these things about your tenant and yet you didn't do anything. Many people are on section 8 because of disabilities and life circumstances you have no idea about. You are no better. You got your rent…. thanks for being so sweet to your fellow man. Oh, and the tax thing? Ha, ha..you get tax breaks because you rent section 8.

Looks like a nice place why are they allowed to live there and not some ghetto? Also, what race were they? Can you pick the tenant and race. Like just keep passing on them until you get the one you want "interviews" or are you basically stuck with who they give you?

This is sad
Why because I was once a section 8 voucher holder and I had my four children young at the time
I moved into to a villa brand new
I lived there for two years single mother with four kids went to school and worked, I made sure the place was taken care of and when I moved I got my deposit back. I bought my first home when I moved from there turned in my section 8. My point is not everyone one on section 8 is a low life, there are Awesome single moms that work hard are educated and discipline their children, It doesn't matter section 8 or not this can happen

Not everyone on Section 8 is like that if you look at plenty of videos most of the people are not on Section 8 that's destroy home I know plenty of people on Section 8 that lives clean healthy life so that do work and do not have a lot of kids and I know ones that do have a lot of kids and their houses are clean and nice and they're good to their landlord it has nothing to do with being on Section 8. Some people in this world just do not care about keeping their things or other people's things nice

I don't know what it's like in most States but the state that I live in if your on Section 8 and you damage somebody's home the state finds out you're put on a list and you are informed if you do not pay the owner back the money for the damage you are not allowed to get Section 8 or any kind of housing assistance again not only for you but for your mother's father or children you are all shut off from assistance. And 99% of the time the landlord gets his money back and it also means that even if they go to another state to try to get Section 8 or any kind of housing assistance when they look up your name it automatically pulls up. If the damage is extremely bad they automatically prevent them from Ever Getting assistance again they go after them through the courts and they have to pay every penny back but like I said before if you go on line and you look up all the videos of apartments and houses being destroyed most of them are not Section 8 and most Section 8 people do not live like this the houses have to be looked at twice a year if it's not clean or if there's any damage they cannot be there. He would also be surprised at how many landlord take advantage of Section 8 want to rent nasty houses two people on Section 8 it's gotten to the point. Section 8 workers have to check the house and make sure that everything is correct before you can move in

Honestly speaking, this can be any "Tenant"! Dont blame a person that happens to be on a rent assistance program, for damages you allowed to happen to your property. And you cant assume that people on housing subsidies that are unemployed, sit around damaging properties they rent out! Section 8 is a rent assistance program that one must be Employed (fulltime or part time) to be apart of. The recipient has to be employed or in school/College, in order to qualify. Others are on disability, or retired. Heres some questions, I have for the Landlord. How often did you check on the apartment? If you didn't agree with something the tenant has done to your property, Address it to him/her directly. You can also report the violation, or file the complaint with the housing authority. Did you repaint the apartment regularly? By law it's supposed to be repainted every 3 years. There are Annual housing inspections done by the Housing agencies every one to two years. You can make your complaints about the tenant to the housing inspector, or better yet visit the Housing office as a Landlord, to make your complaints BEFORE the tenant moves out. The tenant could very well lose her housing voucher (temporarily, until she pays off these damages or permanently) for violating the lease agreement. Why wait until a tenant has moved out to start recording your complaints, during renovations, to show the public how terrible she treated the property? How terrible of a landlord were YOU, to allow a tenant to do this to your property because YOU neglected to do something about the situation/tenant sooner??

Don’t Worry

NOT ALL SECTION 8 TENANTS ARE LIKE THIS! I know PLENTY of people on section 8 that have beautiful houses! Just because YOU'VE had bad experiences with the bad apples doesn't mean everyone is dirty and disrespectful with property.

I've seen people who make some serious money and think they're above everyone and destroy their apartments before leaving. Destroy as in a hammer to the wall, flooding the bathroom and much more.

You should do better background checks and call previous tenants and all that stuff before renting to ANYONE. Section 8 or not. Most landlords charge a fee for applications to do all the checking if you're considering them. If you decide not to go with them, then return then their fee and go on your way.

Been living in the same apartment since I was 19, 37 now and while I'm no clean freak, I NEVER broke stuff. Sep 9, 2018, 6:12 pm Reply

Only in the Southern States would Section 8's voucher program approve a recipient to live in a House like this. Its cheaper rents in the south, and a wider and better selection of housing to choose from in the south as well. With Landlords more willing & quicker to take tenants on the program, than New York for example. Getting an apartment in the North/ New York, thats a Town house, Condo, or a Duplex, or even renting a house is damn near unheard of out here in NY, with the rents as high as they are for 1 and 2 bedroom apartments alone. PLUS screening is critical out here, credit score checks, background checks, and income amounts is strongly considered, making it 10x harder/more difficult for a Section 8 voucher recipient to locate and find decent housing. As a result, The city (NYC) has sued Landlords and management companies here in NY for housing discrimination, as well as the City has had to slap Fines on landlords and management companies out here with fines for as much as $100,000! Why? because the homeless population is at an all time high, shelters are over crowded, and its hard enough for working, tax paying citizens, to find housing as it is without the added burden of being discriminated against because they are recipients of a Government housing program that assists them in paying their rent month to month, in order for them to be able to feed their families, and pay their other bills. Presently it costs $2,300+ per month here in NY for some 1 bedroom apartments, close to $1800 per month for some studios, and we won't mention how much 2 and 3 bedrooms cost out here in NY now, just imagine! There is a waiting list for section 8 vouchers out here, thats how many people living in NYC and its 5 boroughs that NEED the rent assistance program (all races, and backgrounds of people are on that wait list), so videos like this, just make it even harder for people that NEED the program, are recipients, and are looking for housing present day in 2018.

This is a COMPLETELY FAKE video. Either that or the landlord is incredibly stupid. Contact the local housing authority (yeah, the agency that PAYS you via direct deposit on the 1st of every month) and file a complaint. The tenant will either reimburse or get kicked off "Section 8". I'm sorry for all that extra work and expense you had to go through. I hate to come off as spacey here but bear with me on this. Everyone, every person is a living vibration. Everyone vibrates at a certain frequency that they chose to hold. They attract others of the same vibration as friends & family. A bit more more relevant to this video – holding anger, hate, low self esteem, jealousy, self-loathing, feelings of unworthiness or hopelessness, fear or victim hood is operating at a low vibration. We all want our environment to reflect back to us how we feel so that we can feel "OK"- not self conscious or feel more of a sense of control. In this case, if we feel the environment is vibrating higher than we are, we will do somethings to make it match. It's like a bad graphitti writer who starts shaking and breaks into a cold sweat whenever their around a clean wall – like a hard core cigarette addict (who hasn't had a puff for days) They don't feel good around clean walls. Clean walls don't speak to how they feel inside. They then have to take the years of stored up ugliness within themselves and splatter it all over the place so they can feel OK – to create an external reflection of how they feel inside. They may also secretly hate the landlord for coming up with and maintaining a better system to make money than they have .

I'm very thankful for having a clean, orderly place for my family. And I want you to know that you totally caught a bad seed and that not all recipients are the same.
I've always paid rent and took care of my place before I received my voucher and I will continue to do the same after. Although I was scraping like a dog to cover all my Bill's but now I can breathe a little, and I'm mostly excited to fix my credit and go to school while I'm being assisted with housing.
Those were crummy people with terrible home management skills, etc, etc
Did the housing Authority pay you all for the damage because in Atlanta they will pay for any damage caused by a tenant and then sue the tenant for the money that they had to spend.
But, please dont think that all peeps are the same because we arent

Trashy people do trashy things. Sorry you had to go through that. I just became the property manager for my mother's eight properties. We do NOT do Section 8 tenants. I have other family members who rent to them, but they own trailers and not houses so, I don't think they care as much. I am getting rid of all carpet and tiling the sh't out of everything. Cigarettes burns, urine, paint, vomit, blood cannot damage tile and tile cannot hold onto smells. I made a video and showed the sh't renters do. I have had it up to my eyebrows with pets and roach feces. It took me four months to get rid of those German cockroaches. The smell was horrendous. There is a reason why these people have the government take care of them. Some of these people amaze me that they found their way out of the womb. Take care, friend and detox from the carpet!

Get off the section 8 deal…I am section 8 and have been living in the same place for 3 years. My home is spotless. So it’s not just as you say section 8.

They make a mess and trash the place, then someone else has to clean the mess and fix the damage, which costs money. It can get very expensive.

Is it logical to do inspections every 3-6 months?
Isnt that kind of idiotic as well?
Hahahahhaa but your irritation is so funny because… I thought i moved into a dirty place
I'm sorry for the destruction. Hopefully they didnt get a deposit… Uhm
Still…again … Inspections.

To be honest..im surprised the children didn't drown in the lake due to the ignorance and lack of responsibility for the place.
I'm sorry i am. My past comment might have upset you.
I'm due for a inspection tomorrow ive been in my apartment only a month…and i have busted my ASS to clean up after the MINOR neglect..
I feel humbled.. I hope you do as well in only to inspect and get money's worth as well as respect…
now i know why the inspection is every 3 months with low income apartments.
I'm sorry dude. I wish i could help you more than commenting. This is NOT OKAY

I know where you're coming from bud so sorry to hear this…been there, done that , bought the T-shirt…I had a beautiful place too, didn't take long for her and her kids to ruin my beautiful place, you could of eaten off my floors when i first rented to her. I also had a cockroach infestation, they were everywhere! she was such a pig..I reported her to housing as soon as she moved out, they told her if she didn't pay me back every penny I spent to fix it back up again, she would be kicked off housing, she was't happy $5,000 later.too bad so sad!! I could of gotten her kicked off but i wanted my money back that i had to put out! the thing was is she was such a sweetheart when i interviewed her the first few times before the move..thought i had the ideal tenant..was i ever fooled! took pictures of everything next tenant..everything to show housing or a judge..good luck

This is some straight up lying BS!! Theres no way a section 8 tenant can leave & do that much damage to anybodies property and still be on the section 8 voucher program.
1. Theres an inspection once a year, or once every 2 years. If the Landlord ever had complaints about the tenant, and concerns for the property, he/she can easily address the concerns during an Inspection to the inspector.
2. Most of these property owners, and landlords are too lazy to visit the section 8 housing offices to express their concerns, file complaints on tenant, they can learn the rules of the program as well since many dont seem to have a clue, how the program actually works because theyre most interested in the CHECKS $$$$ coming in each month, & nothing else! If a section 8 tenant is giving as many problems as this person is on here showing videos "claiming" the damages is all "allegedly" done by section 8 tenant?? Thats just suspect. Tge section 8 program has rules in place that will never allow the recipients to get away with doing such things to anyones property.

As bad as people on the program NEED this program, in order to pay their rent each month, do you honestly THINK, this is whats really going on out here with these rentals? This video is nothing more than a crock of LIES, put together, to pursuade landlords not to rent out apartments or properties to section 8 voucher holders. Tgeres NO WAY a section 8 tenant could get away with doing all of this and still have her VOUCHERS to move freely some place else. She would be removed from the program completely, with minimal chances to ever get back on it, if she violated property rules, and rules of the program in general, the way description and video suggests. FOH!! You are a LIAR trying to mislead the public by showing and telling your lies.

The only MORON in this equation seems to be the Landlord!! Why does he even own any properties?

-The security Deposit is supposed to be used to cover damages after tenant leaves. It's the Owners fault for letting the apartment damages get to this degree! If he's actually telling the truth, with his racist & stereotypical, remarks. He fits in the Slumlord category, by not checking in on his properties regularly.
-Owner should've visited the property at least twice a month.
-Where was the Owner during the yearly section 8 housing inspections, with these same complaints?
-If the tenant was breaking the rules, why didnt owner visit the section 8 Housing office to report or file a claim against the tenant for breaking the rules?
-By law the apartment should be repainted once every 3 years. -Owner should've reported tenant as violating the lease by painting apt without permission from the owner before hand.
-Why didnt you check previous rental history. Contact previous landlords of the tenant?
-The tenant should not be responsible for paying $13,000 in damages for an apartment that even the Owner/Landlord FAILED to make repairs for and check on regularly? He would have no case in court, which is why hes on YouTube trying to make section 8 tenants look bad.

Just because a tenant has vouchers, doesnt automatically mean they destroy property, and dont keep a clean house. That could be any tenant, just like "Good credit & a High income" dont mean your property will never incur damages or be destroyed either. Every tenant is different, Vouchers or not! This owner ASSumes all section 8 tenants will do this. Reality is he messed up as an owner by not doing his homework on this tenant more thouroughly. And not knowing the program rules fully.

Housing DISCRIMINATION IS REAL!! If you are willing to risk losing your Real Estate License, or paying hefty fines of up to $100,000, & being sued by the City…then go right ahead & believe that DISCRIMINATING against housing Section 8 tenants is the way to go (because you want to listen to a slumlord on YouTube)…then you go right on ahead and take that chance. I encourage all Voucher Holders to learn tge Fair housin Laws in your State. & if you feel like youre being Discriminated against based on your Source of Income & means to pay rent each month, you contact your Fair Housing Commission Agency, gather the numbers, names, and addresses, & file a report with the Commission on who is Discriminating against you how & why!

You should paint for a new Tennant anyway. New carpet as well. Structure damage is a different story. You should change batteries in smoke detector when you check your property. Section 8 drives up the cost of rent for regular renters because you can rent for a higher price with a section 8 Tennant.

You need to rephrase your words not all section 8 tenants are like this. I’m sorry you had bad experiences. I go to college have 2 children and I’m married im also a veteran of the Army. We use government assistance and have never left a place looking like that. So you need to change how you are saying what you say. NOT ALL people who have government assistance are like that

Baby anybody can mess up an apartment you don't just have to be on Section 8 don't let that one section 8 sending mess it up for the others property is a really big investment I don't care if you want Section 8 if you got a 95 attendant is a tendon that's how you got to know what you want and vesting in and who you know it's hard dealing with property I've been in so many people properties and the landlord's headed raggedy is dirty in there it is both angles it ain't just attendance it's the landlords to

As a landlord you cannot be a slumlord you have to invest in your property which mean and if you're dealing with the Section 8 send it and you want to go check your property every month you got the right to do that or dealing with any tendon if you got to check your stuff once a month do an inspection and that's what you got to do that's your property it is not Section 8 property

Hey I'm a section 8 tenant and I don't appreciate your comments about section 8 tenants "destroying" properties! Remember that not every person is the same I keep my apartment spotless my landlord has maintenance do 3-4 inspections every year to insure that everything remains clean and in working order! Let's assume for a second that the tenants from hell you had were not section 8 and they still would of destroyed your apartment would you have titled your video different? It all comes back to one thing and that's not section 8 it's the individual(s) themselves!

While I'm all for people being help now and then I can say in my time dealing with section8 tenants they destroy homes. I feel they have never had to work and pay a full morgage on a home that they have also been responsible for repairing and therefore have zero care or respect for the home they are given to live in with minimal rent they pay. It disgusts me and I feel if the government wants people to sign up their property for these folks they should also pay for the damage the property owner is left with. That is the only way they will do their part in making sure section 8 tenants abide by taking care of the home and living by the rules of getting it. So many have their lovers, friends pile up in the home living off the governments dime thanks to us tax payers. I will never again rent to section 8 for this reason. Sorry you were left with this mess to repair.
