Resident Evil Analysis – (Nemesis or William Birkin)

Nemesis or William Birkin? That’s the question that a lot of resident
evil fans out there have been asking. Seeing which of these monsters overall made
a greater impact in not only their respective resident titles but also in the resident evil
series as a whole. With William Birkin being the main antagonist
of resident evil 2 and Nemesis being the giant obstacle that Jill Valentine had to face in
resident evil 3. Both monsters highlighted their terrifying
abilities and gave us resident evil fans games that were instant classics. Anyways what is up you guys this is HeY DeVuH
and in this video we’ll break down both Nemesis and William Birkin and see which of
these monsters had a greater effect on their respective resident evil title but also which
of them provided us resident evil fans a great but terrifying experience. So as we dissect both of these monsters, please
stay tuned to the end of the video, as we cover aspects like their in game battle mechanics
and abilities, their presence in the game, and their overall impact for their respective
plotlines. So starting off with william birkin, making
his debut in resident evil 2, were we discover him to be the scientist that created the powerful
G virus, a mutagenic strain that would cause the host to mutate continuously. Anyways as he was appreciating his creation
of this new virus, he was surprised by umbrella operatives who were sent to retrieve the G
virus samples. By the end of the encounter, we see william
dealt with multiple gunshot wounds to the right side of his body and the umbrella operatives
are at haste after retrieving the G virus samples. Unbeknownst to them though, william was still
holding to a sample of the G virus, which he subsequently injected into his own body
because the G virus was known to revitalize cellular functions, which was stated by Williams
wife, Annette Birkin. Eventually this led william to pursuit the
umbrella operatives to the sewers, were one by one he took down each of the soldiers with
his new found strength. Were he showcased his resistance to the heavy
fire they’re with dealing him, his new found speed, and the new enlarged right arm with
claws. So after this initial background to william
birkin, we the players in resident evil 2 are now in for a treat fighting this G mutated
monster, who with his many iterations of the G transformation, will give us a great but
terrifying time. Were throughout resident evil 2, we face william
birkin several times. Starting with his first G malformation form
were he still has some semblance as a human being to his eventually final blob form in
Scenarios B. With each encounter with william progressively
becoming more difficult compared to his previous transformation, we the players had to adapt
our in game strategy fight this monster as well. Because we can’t use the same tactics that
we did with our initial encounter with william, were we’re able to shoot him from a distance
since he wasn’t as mobile compared to his later horrifying transformations. Were he displays the ability to jump on higher
ground to cover the distance that us players have created, to his new trait of running
towards us during our final fight with him in scenario A. Anyways talking about that final fight in
scenario A, this would presumably be the peak of his G Virus mutation. Were he starts off with his four enlarged
arms with claws, as he stalks you throughout the cargo room. But after receiving enough damage, William
will start to mutate once more. Were now he is as mobile as ever, were he’s
able to displays tremendous speed, which we the players can’t just out maneuver anymore. With the way he runs towards us players, to
him displaying feats of versatility when he’s able to jump on top of the platforms over
and over again. If that’s not enough, he can even jump on
the side of the wall. What’s more terrifying than having this
massive demonic looking creature jumping everywhere, with his chaotic movements, and his ability
to grab ahold of us players and chew on us like a piece of meat. Like seriously, the developers were going
all out in making this an amazing final fight in our first playthrough in the original resident
evil 2. Were we the players are now facing the potential
of the G virus. Showing its power when it fully takes hold
of its host. Overall it was great to see william birkin
progress throughout the game, becoming stronger and stronger with each encounter. Were we finally fight against him when he
displays his chaotic in game battle mechanics, to his moans of pain during his mutations,
and to his overall impact for the story in resident evil 2. It’s a good parallel for us players as we
progresses through the original resident evil 2 game, because as we learn how to become
a better player during our playthrough, so too will william become better at challenging
us players with our subsequent battles with him. But with the overall challenges that william
birkin has provided us in original RE2, we the players have to pay homage to the tyrant
who left us reeling after seeing him for the first time in resident evil 3. Were we see Nemesis make him first in game
appearance when he surprises both Jill and Brad at the entrance of the rpd station. Were we see this massive tyrant jump right
in front of us, roaring to the top of his lung, were Nemesis eventually murders Brad
right in front of us. But after the onslaught, we then see nemesis
hone his eyes on Jill, with his sole objective is to eliminate the remaining S.T.A.R.S. members. But with this initial encounter with nemesis,
we the players are in for one of the best and terrifying times we had to this point
in the resident evil series. Were we have this tyrant sporting his iconic
trenchcoat limiter, running towards us players. Displaying a speed that he haven’t seen
yet in a resident evil title during its time. Anyways we quickly learn that we can’t just
outrun this tyrant like we did with any other monsters in the game, because even with the
new dodge mechanic that resident evil 3 has added, it was still an arduous task to not
be caught by nemesis. Because once caught by this tyrant, nemesis
would either throw us to the floor, which would cause Jill to stagger for a couple of
seconds. Or he would perform his instant kill move,
were he picks us up in the air and proceeds to kills us in a similar manner like he did
Brad. But even after displaying his initial in game
battle mechanics, this wasn’t what made nemesis so terrifying for us players in resident
evil 3. Because the thing that stood out that this
tyrant displayed was his ability to follow us throughout the environment during our playthrough
in RE3. Were we see him break through windows, walls,
and even doors. We the player never truly felt safe traversing
the environments of this game. Because the great but terrifying fact that
he can also follow you from room to room created so much tension for us resident evil fans. Because after leaving an area with nemesis
in it, we would assume that we would be safe from this tyrant. The problem with that in this resident evil
game is that once you move your character a certain distance from the door you just
came through, we would suddenly get the tension filled soundtrack of nemesis playing in the
background. Were we hear this tyrants footsteps coming
closer and closer to us players. Displaying his speed with the way he can catch
up to Jill, were he’s able to cover the distance between himself and us players in
a very short amount of time. To top that off, nemesis also showcases his
ability to wield weapons, but of course it’s not just any weapon, because we see this tyrant
use a freaking rocket launcher at us players. Capcom seems to have went all in with this
tyrant, to try to make sure that it can be as terrifying as possible for us resident
evil fans. But anyways, Another great aspect with nemesis
is the tension that he brings, even when he’s off screen. Because during these tension filled times
of Nemesis’s absence, we the players get a great soundtrack that plays when he’s
nearby by. It almost makes us players not to want to
move forwards with our characters because he may just pop in front of our screen and
yell out S.T.A.R.S. But with all the great traits that Nemesis
displayed during our encounters with him, he was also a big part of moving the plot
of resident evil 3 forward. With our protagonist Jill Valentine’s main
objective is to escape the zombie infested Raccoon City, we have this Tyrant hell bent
on trying to eliminate her. Being the obstacle and the driving force that
pushes our characters to the brink of death many times, we the players have to continually
have to face this tyrant throughout our journey in resident evil 3. With Nemesis showing his impact in the storyline
when he follows Jill and Carlos in the cable car. Were we see Mikhail fight against this tyrant,
but unfortunately meets his untimely demise when he attempt to blow both himself and nemesis
up with his grenade. But this would only slow the tyrant down shortly
because we then see him again at the clock tower area, were Nemesis would destroy an
escape helicopter right in front of Jill. This tyrant was unrelenting with his constant
pursuit of us players throughout the game, which is why it’s a great comparison to
william birkin. Because on one hand, you have this human being
who is constantly mutating, becoming stronger and stronger with each subsequent mutation. who eventually becomes this massive G monster,
who displays his chaotic in game battle mechanics throughout resident evil 2. But on the other hand we have this hulking
tyrant who is hell bent on stalking you throughout resident evil 3, with his never ending pursuit
of us players, using his tremendous speed, his ability to follow us through the many
sections of the environment, and to his trait of wielding a rocket launcher. We resident evil fans were treated with two
of the most iconic monsters in the resident evil series. With Nemesis and William Birkin showcasing
their abilities to its fullest potential, we the players are in for a challenging but
fun encounters with these monsters. But back to the point, both william birkin
and nemesis became a pivotal part of their respective titles, providing us resident evil
fans fear that we haven’t seen in a survival horror title during their times. Only time will tell how both these monsters
will present themselves in today’s modern gaming climate. Especially since the new resident evil 2 remake
is just a couple of weeks away from it’s release. Also us resident evil fans are hoping to have
some type of confirmation from capcom themselves to let us know what’s going on with the
development of the resident evil 3 remake. Because we can only imagine the horror that
both these monster will provide in their remakes version, seeing them completely fleshed out
and taking full advantage of the new RE Engine. Were we resident evil fans can anticipate
the pure terror that both william and nemesis will provide us in the future iterations of
their respective titles. Possibly showcasing the many abilities that
they’ve shown from their classic counterparts and adding to that foundation to create a
boss battle experience that we have yet to see from any resident evil title so far. But overall it seems like we’re heading
in the right direction with the upcoming release of the RE2 remake and if the trends continue
to go on like this, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see Nemesis again, showing him in a
much more potent version of the likes that we’ve never seen before. Anyway thank you guys so much for watching

Nemesis is more scary based on his unwillingness to give up and the # of times he shows up. Burkin is the more fun to battle since he changes his tactics somewhat each time.

The original burkin has the creepier look and music. The new burkin is more fun to battle and harder to battle with how easy his later forms can get into your face.

Birkin for me. There was something about the design for Nemesis that didn’t sit well with me (I’m not sure if it’s the trench coat and the horrid scarring)

You also just see fractions of what Birkin does and you are waiting with anticipation for the next encounter. With Nemesis, it eventually got to the point where I wasn’t scared and I was just pissed and furious that he won’t stop bugging me.

Also, I guess the other factor as to why I have to go with Birkin is that you see how he gradually goes from human to mindless murder machine that needs to procreate with someone of the same genetic structure. Nemesis on the other hand is designed to just be a killing machine.

The match between nemesis and Birkin was fought in the comics and while both are insanely strong, Nemesis won by a thread. Nemesis has intelligence over Birkin because Birkin lost his mind for survival. Nemesis also has the intelligence to use complex weapons while Birkin at most can use a pipe. Birkin was destroyed more easily than nemesis which took a rail gun to be able to kill him. Even then he still tried to stalk Jill. Nemesis endured multiple ballistics, explosives, fire, acid bath, railgun, and nuke to finally kill him Birkin endured weapon ballistics, explosives, fire, and a final explosion killed him.

Nemesis was definitely cool but that doesn't mean he is as powerful as birkins g mutations. Even the resident evil comics show how strong birkin was compared to nemesis. Every blow that nemesis gave birkin ended up becoming nothing to william/ the g virus. It took the might of 4 T-103's (basically mrx but just more of him) and nemesis to destroy birkin. If those other tyrants weren't there nemesis would have gotten clobbered to death.

RE3 was much more action oriented than RE2. More zombies to slay, but also much more ammunition to do so. Still a good game, but less scary. Different ppl find different things scary, but for me Birkin as a monster who take no orders from human beings is much more unpredictable. Nemesis is strong and formidable opponent, but afterall he´s just a slave. Umbrellas puppet, who is doing what he is told to do. That makes him less scary for me. He´s much more like a Terminator from the movies, while G-infected Birkin is more towards monster in the movie "The Thing".

G-Birkin is an almost indestructible creature, you beat it down and it just comes back bigger, stronger, and faster. In a one on one fight G-Birkin would defeat Nemesis. . .but Nemesis (at least in my opinion) is more dangerous than G-Birkin, Nemesis is intelligent, and can actually be given orders to follow, Nemesis can think, come up with a form of strategy. While it can’t win against G-Birkin, Nemesis can do better at hunting down and eliminating human foes.

Think about this. Birkin was killed by an explosion inside the train. Nemesis fell into a pool of acid, survived to grow and become a massive beast and survives multiple missiles from a rail cannon. Not to mention he tanked a lot more bullet lead than Birkin was since you encountered him more frequently. Birkin lost control of its humanity. The Nemesis remembered it's orders even when his limited coat broke off

Nemesis was definitely bigger and more iconic. However, birkin was part of the most iconic game in all of RE. RE3 was fun and all, but was not anywhere near as fantastic as 2. Though I admit that Nemesis was scarier in RE3, it was sheer suspense that made him great. Horror wise, I suppose that Nemesis' suspense far beats Birkin in "scariness" because let's face it, Birkin wasn't scary except for maybe the first playthrough. Mr.X was in charge of that.

In the end the way I see it, Birkin was a better character story-wise, overall his designs were better than Nemesis (barely), and he is part of the best RE title out there. However, Nemesis made what would have been a slightly disappointing RE title into the most suspenseful of the first three titles, his gameplay mechanics were far better, his design is still damn great, and to top it all off he is the true evolution of the coolest BOWs in RE imo (tyrants) even though they got lame after that xD.

Nemesis wins empirically (as far as popularity and iconic influence) and I think that's in large part because people were WAITING on the sequel to what RE2 did. RE3 was propped up to blow up big. Nemesis was on the damn cover of the game and his face was everywhere. That's how casuals knew about him even if they didn't play the game. Of course when the game came out I don't think the fans were disappointed with Nemesis at all. It's my opinion that Birkin is still the better character though. You can skip Nemesis' existence from the game, you can't skip Birkins.

Nemesis T-Type is an extra special creation of Umbrella's to finish the work Mr X couldn't. He wields both a minigun and a rocket launcher, and has tentacles that could rip through anyone. Even in his base form, he could still throw us around as if it were nothing. Not to mention that he was spontaneous, showing up out of nowhere, especially at the worst times.
Birkin was the stuff of nightmares and his Prime form was nigh-invincible. Nemesis I'd say is much stronger, but Birkin was much more terrifying.

Seriously though a fight between these 2 in the mangwa is epic asf but I will say it once and I will say it again no b.o.w. can compare to the fear that nemesis gave me playing re3 and i cant wait till the remake comes out

I don’t think Berkin can take a rocket launcher to the face.

Scaring the shit out of me: William. What is scary about him is that it is basically body horror at its best, you can see him becoming less human. He becomes something so alien that he also start acting like an irrational animal, while nemesis is a big guy with a scarred face and that is actually quite inteligent. He's like an action movie villain

On a fight, I think william would for his healing factor and the fact he could rip thru a mr x easily.
