Renters: Apartment wrongly withheld security deposits

THAN A QUARTER OF A PERCENT DIFFERENCE, THERE WILL BE A HAND RECOUNT. A WOMAN REACHED OUT TO KOIN 6 INVESTIGATOR TEAM. WHAT SHE FOUND OUT. SHE LIVED THAT THE APARTMENTS IN SOUTHWEST PORTLAND. SHE MOVED OUT AND SAID SHE WOULD BE GETTING HER DEPOSIT BACK, BUT SAYS THAT DID NOT HAPPEN. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD DO A BASIC CLEANING. I BELIEVED THAT. A MONTH WENT BY AND SHE NEVER RECEIVED A CHECK. THEY WERE GIVEN A LONG LIST OF CHARGES THEY DIDN’T UNDERSTAND. SHE WOULD GIVE — HE WAS GIVEN PRETTY INSUFFICIENT EVIDENCE FOR JUSTIFICATION FOR KEEPING THE DEPOSIT. OVERALL, IT WAS A VERY DISHONEST INTERACTION. PORTLAND TENANTS UNITED SAYS THAT JUST BECAUSE IT IS THE LAW, DOES NOT MEAN LANDLORDS ALWAYS COMPLY. THE REALITY IS, YOU HAVE TO GO TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT AND THAT TAKES MONTHS. THAT IS WHAT HE DID. HE FILED THAT HE WAS NOT GIVEN HIS DEPOSIT BACK. HE WROTE THAT I HAD TO BORROW MONEY. THE COURT ORDERED THEM TO PAY. TENANTS ONLY HAVE THE COURT PROCESS. I TRIED TO SPEAK WITH THE APARTMENT MANAGER, BUT THEY REFUSED TO ANSWER QUESTIONS. OREGON STATE LAW SAYS IF A LANDLORD DOES NOT RETURN A SECURITY DEPOSIT OR GIVEN NEXT NATION, THE RENTER IS ENTITLED TO TWICE THE AMOUNT. AS BROOKS IS NOW LEARNING SUMMIT GETTING THE MONEY IS THE HARD PART.
