Today’s the day! *intro music* So… today we move into our new apartment. I am sorry there wasn’t a video up this morning and I did not do that on purpose. Or to build suspense on which one we picked. But I’m not going to ramble too much. We’re going to go out very shortly, just packing up in our AirBNB apartment and then you will see which apartment we chose. Oh my God, let’s go, let’s go, let’s go!!! Goodbye AirBNB apartment! Hello new apartment! Oh my God! This is our new home! So as you can tell, we went for the luxury Huay Kaew one. So many of you guessed it right. And there are many reasons why we picked this one over the others but I’m going to explain them a little bit later in the video. So bear with us… I was going to explain it the moment I walked in but I can’t, I’m just like – I’m just going to enjoy this moment and I will tell you why this is the best deal for us. Right, I think it’s time to do a load of laundry and unpack and make this a bit more ours. So we did some laundry, but at the moment, as it stands have absolutely nowhere to dry it. So, taa daa! Gonna head out now and do a little bit of shopping – we’re kind of semi-unpacked – to grab a few essentials. So before we go on our shopping adventure, we made a quick pit stop to get some breakfast. Mango and sticky rice. My first time. Mmmmm. Oh yeah. I’ll see you later. I was just saying to Scott that I hope we hit a shop where we hit jackpot with everything we need. Pretty close with this one. I know! Little local hardware shop with bins and scrubbers… things like that. Yes! You wanna go anywhere fast in Thailand, just jump in with a maniac in a tuk-tuk and just hold on tight. Oh, the first time we got a tuk-tuk when we were in Chiang Mai last time, it broke down twice. It was like a really old tuk-tuk. Ah, here’s one now! Wait, wait, wait! Hello! Hello tuk-tuk! So we’ve just come to one of the shopping centers near our apartment, not the really fancy nice one with the good food court. I’ll take you there properly one day. This is another one, cheaper… let’s pick up a few more things. Okay, so shopping was a semi-success we know – I asked on one of the forums I follow Oh, sponges! where we can buy a few bowls and stuff like this, this lighting, it’s not working for me, people. Oh, I got a big bag of stuff! Literally not going to bore you, we just got a cleaning spray, some bleach, a pack of coffee, we needed toothpaste. A little bit of washing up liquid. And we also have madness which is the floor… it was more madness. Toilet rolls, some more coat hangers, from that first place we found that locals’ warehouse – 39 bhat for 10 coat hangers. 39 bhat is around 80 pence. Scott right now is trying to hook up us a little… little washing line. We didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this, so we just picked up this and this to dry our laundry on. Those are 40 bhat each… and we got ourselves these little bins and they were 10 bhat each, just one here and one in the thingie ma bob. Sponges at 5 bhat each. Which is 10 pence a sponge. So that’s about it, we’ve got the necessities and a few essentials to get us going and we spent literally, I think, 10 pounds. And I didn’t show you half of what we got. But just know it’s boring and house stuff, adult stuff. 10 pounds! For all of that, not bad. What you’re about to see might seem really lame and sad, but these are the little finishing touches. Okay, that’s all we got for now but I’m really happy! And look, you did it! Whoo! Look at that laundry! Oh… nice nipples. He’ll kill me for leaving that in the vlog. Don’t care! So happy, so happy, so happy. I will sit down and talk to you properly, but… at the moment it’s kind of all over the place and I’m loving it. I really want to find that nice brown sugar, if anyone can remember what that really soft, raw brown sugar is called, and the best place – probably a market – but, coffee must be had with sugar. So, we’ve got some of that. Alright, so we are gonna go down to the pool now, so excited. This is one of the reasons we picked it, is because it had a pool, but I will talk to you more about that later. Scott and Aly in deep voices: the pool For now? Let’s have a dip. *laughter* Shut up Aly. Shut up. Ooh, it looks nice. It looks real good! Alright, so we had a nice dip in the pool, and realized my camera, like, turned off as we were in there. I don’t know if I caught that, you know, the amazing splishy splashy, I just don’t know! Came back up and we had a bit of *sings Game of Thrones opener* and… I’m not going to spoil anything. I’m not a spoil hog, but… I’m just gonna make this face. Anyone else?! No spoilers down there, I don’t like spoilers for anyone who hasn’t caught up, but… What?! Come on! So we’re going to go and grab ourselves some real budget food. We love it there, loads of food stands, take you, we’re gonna get spring rolls… get three of them. Noodles, everything, I’m gonna get it all. Let’s sit down, I’m gonna explain the reasons why we picked luxury Huay Kaow over the other 8 properties we saw in yesterday’s vlog. The day before that. I’m sorry, my bad. Number one, let’s talk about price. I told you that we were crunching numbers, like, manically. And this one is 15,000 bhat a month, like, way at the end of our budget. But, if you take it out for a 3 month lease, it drops to 13,000 a month. Now, if you watched yesterday’s video, look at what you get for the money. This place is, like, stunning. It is gorgeous. It has absolutely everything else we want, which I’ll come onto. But for the first month, I really wanted some flexibility. Wanted to be able to, if we really didn’t like it or anything happened, that we could just drop out after the first month and find somewhere else. So we paid a little bit extra this month, and next month we’ll, if we’re still loving it here and everything’s still fine, then we’ll drop it up to 13,000 and take the 3 month contract out. But it kind of gives us that leeway, um, of such a dramatic drop in price. Second reason is, we loved it. I mean, I fell in love with this place the moment I walked in, and it just felt right. It felt like when I walked in, this was, yes. I wanted this place so badly from the get-go. Three, it has a pool and gym. Now, what we found is the lower end kind of apartments like Bang Thai and Huay Kaow normal residence they have a gym and a pool, but their rooms aren’t very nice. And everything in between, like Pan Souk and everything, had no pool and gym. So, it kind of felt like you were either paying really cheap, getting a really crappy room with a pool and a gym, or you’d have to pay a ridiculous amount and that’s when we found this place. It has really high security, that’s another reason, that’s number four. It has a finger print scanner to get in the front door. It has 24 hour security on the gate, and then here it has a 6 pin digit to get into the room. How much more security could you possibly ever want? It’s really light, like you probably noticed the huge window, like, floor-to-ceiling glass wall in our bedroom. It’s just incredible, it just lets in so much light. I’ve gotta have a light airy kind of feel. It kinda just brings me down – it makes me happy! To have the sun shining through the windows, have massive windows, bright walls and stuff. It’s a large space. They’ve designed it so well. And it’s very similar to a lot of other spaces like, the square meter size is very similar, however, I don’t know, it’s all about the feng shui, I suppose. And how the architect designs the place, like having – like having that Like having that glass part of the wall to show into the bedroom? Makes it – makes it feel so much bigger than what it is. And as far as the last one is, we have our own washing machine! Out on the balcony, and we’re not paying for water here, so we’ll probably only do one thing a week but… It’s nice to not have to drag your laundry down to the laundrette every week so you can get it done and we just have it right here, and a bit of string later we’ve got a fancy washing line thanks to my man. So yeah, those are the reasons compared to the others, I mean Pang Souk was really nice, The Dome was really really nice, but I think one you’ve gotta have a feeling, and then not follow your heart and put that aside and look at money. And then when you look at money, it just worked out better for us but we’ve gotta just take a chance on it. And we did. And I’m so happy, like so so happy, so raise your glass, get a beer. I’ll wait. Pause the video. And we’ll make a cheers to our first apartment. Alright, so, I’m going to end the vlog there. I wanted today – we did go out for food and I will show you all that, like, around Chiang Mai where we’re eating, where we’re going shopping things like that in different vlogs. We’re going to be here for a little while, working hard on my book getting that finished, going to be really really good. Don’t worry, you’re going to see all of that I just thought today we’ll keep it strictly on apartment-y stuff. FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, all PsychoTraveller links are down there and I will see you tomorrow! *blows kiss* Bye! New apartment!

Very nice! I love it. Congratulations. Enjoy 🙂 Where could I look at apartments online? What can one get for about $1000 USA dollars? I'm just curious. Do you have air conditioning? IS that common to have or do most not have it? Excellent video. Thanks for the info. 🙂 Oh and are you any where near the beach? I'm not sure where your city is.

I know I didn't get it right – but technically – TECHNICALLY – I hit the nail, cause you did say you loved Pansook 2 and Dome – but in my defense, your first vid on this apartment, Huay Kuewy or whatever, was not as revealing/informational as this one, so the feeling you got was not the feeling I got, so hence it looks like I didn't win all the prizes, beacuse Huewy Kuewy or whatever was the choice, but I feel morally victorious – enjoy……:-)…….Scotty – Gym – 24/7……..:-)

Hi, I really enjoyed watching your videos. I have been watching for about a year or two, but under my real name. I just started this new travel vlog and I would love it if you could take a look at it. It's kind of odd, bizarre, informative, amusing and kooky. I really like your vlogs for those same reasons, plus you remind me of a younger version of myself. I hope you will take a look at my vlogs. The first one explains why I took my trip and the reason I decided to share my experiences with the public. It was meant to be very cathartic and it was. The name of it is, "Sad goodbye, but now happy hello to you! Also way to save big money in Rome!" I respect your opinion very much, mainly because, though you're kind of kooky, I can tell you are also very interesting and intelligent, qualities I have also been told (or accused) of having! I hope you will enjoy it and if you have time, perhaps you could give me some suggestions on how to build my site. I have very little money (small pension) but would like to do more travelling, (this was my first vacation in 32 years!) and I am hoping I can make a little money so I can return to Italy and research more budget tips and report even more crazy adventures, like trying to pantomime to French paramedics, that a woman needed a CAT Scan by motioning to my head and loudly MEOWING!!! I think for a moment they considered taking me away!!! Thanks for taking the time to read my letter. I know when you first move into a new apartment it is very hectic. If you happen to like my crazy and thoroughly unprofessional, but fun video skills, maybe you can subscribe. Thank you very much. Take care. Sincerely, Indi

Please try using reusable bags when shopping. This is especially important in countries such as Thailand where recycling isn't as readily available. Not to mention that it is surrounded by the ocean, and a lot of that plastic will end up in it.

@Hi Wanderlust Estate! I just watched one of your videos and it really looks like a lot of fun!!! When I see all you professional vloggers travelling to so many wonderful places, I wish I could figure out how you get the money to do it?? I really want to go back to Europe, especially Italy and travel around like you do, but by bus and/or train and give great money saving tips and of course talk about my many "only could happen to me" moments! The problem is I don't even have the airfare to get back to Europe and I am on a very small pension. Do you have any suggestions?? Thank you for being so kind. I have subscribed to many travel vlogs and you are the first person to answer me back so I consider that an honor!!! By the way, where are you travelling now? How do you keep your feet and legs from getting cramps. I traveled from Rome to Paris on the bus and my feet were in terrible pain!!! Thank a lot and as they used to say in the 80's, "Keep on Trucking!!!"
