Our $420/mo House in Guanajuato, Mexico: Casita Tour, Prices, and How We Found Our Place

hey guys finally finally finally I am
recording a house tour this video is for Becky Becky in California because she
has been asking for this video for like six weeks now and I keep saying that
it’s coming soon and now it is finally here this is the house we are renting in
Guanajuato the first room you come to is the living room it’s not huge but it is
comfortable and it does the job I love these ceilings and this place
actually has ceiling fans which we haven’t stayed in a place with ceiling
fans in Mexico yet so we were pretty jazzed about that this house came
furnished off of the living room is one of the bathrooms this is the half bath I love the ceilings in this place this
is a little cross I bought and I think it’s so cute and I didn’t have to use my
phone to translate when I bought it happiness and joy as you come downstairs
from the living room you get to the kitchen the second bathroom the two bedrooms
and the dining room I love the design on these stairs this
is one of my favorite things in the apartment this is the dining room this
is my favorite room in the house it is always bright and sunny and there’s a
nice breeze coming in through the windows obviously we eat at the table
but that’s also where I do my editing and any work that I’m doing in the
evenings after Harper goes to sleep both bedrooms and the dining room have
closets which is nice for storage space not that we have stuff to store right now
but I love these little knobs they’re so happy and these curtains came with the
place and they’re just so cheerful I love them the bookcase where keep all
the books we don’t own and there’s Harper’s toys this little
lamp is adorable here’s a wine rack for all that wine we don’t have and
here is one of the bedrooms I call this the Blue Room for obvious reasons both
the headboards in the bedrooms are so cool. ceiling fan! and another closet I
love that this place gets a lot of natural light this is the second bedroom the beds come with storage drawers
where we keep our clothes the bedrooms aren’t big but they’re plenty big enough
for us and what we need right now here’s the main bathroom this is awkward
I’m not gonna lie the shower is small that’s definitely a downside of this
place we installed this shower filter when we
got in here here’s the kitchen this is also very small but it’s got
everything that I need and the oven is actually a decent size compared to the
oven we had in San Miguel it’s a little bit bigger food processor you know I use
that all the time there’s Harper’s favorite cereal okay this is the terrace there is a
rooftop terrace this is our favorite part of the house it has these tiled
installed benches big table lots of pretty plants it’s the perfect spot to
sit and drink tea or chat with a friend on the phone or play games Harper loves
being up there okay how much does this place cost and how did we find it this
place costs 8,000 Mexican pesos per month we have a ten month lease so
depending on the exchange rate that’s around four hundred and twenty dollars
u.s. the house has two bedrooms one and a half bath kitchen dining room and a
rooftop terrace it’s within easy walking distance to the center there are several
ways to find rentals in Guanajuato we were told to ask around to look for for
rent signs on places and to check the chopper magazine none of those things
worked for us because we were trying to rent at a pretty peak time this was
leading up to October which is the international Cervantino Festival
which is a big deal in Guanajuato and everything gets booked up
so those ways may work better at different times of year we also were
checking the Guanajuato rentals Facebook page we found this place
actually by going into Casa Solaris which is a rental agency in Guanajuato I
didn’t expect to find anything that would work for us because they didn’t
have this place on the website yet but when I came into the office they had
actually just had this place go on the market so I was able to look at it that
day and we signed the paperwork and rented
it immediately thereafter all right thanks for watching guys I hope this is helpful
if you have any questions about renting in Guanajuato let me know in the
comments below and thanks Becky for reminding me to make this video if you
haven’t subscribed yet please do so and I’ll see you in the next video bye

The engraving in your bed heads is called “Niña con alcatraces” and is a painting of Diego Rivera.

My great grandmother fled Guanajuato after her 15-year-old son was taken away, and forced to fight in the Mexican revolution. He was never seen again. Don't mean to be a downer, I just always think about that whenever I hear about Guanajuato. Lovely house.

Just curious…compared to us over in SMA. We know it is more expensive over here for sure.

Oh My God!
It's super funny that the moment I see the home I feel like a dream, I know where this house is, many friends lived there back in 2009 -2010 and I spent many hours there…
I hope you're all enjoying living by La Calzada, the walk under La Universidad is always nice, steep, but you get used to it.
I really hope you're enjoying My Hometown and all it has to give.

Thank you for the tour of your house. I pay more for the room I rent here in the states.
Did you pay 1st, last and a deposit to move into your house?
Did you explore any of the areas outside the city? Rent seems to be even cheaper away from the city and I'm curious about those out lying areas.
Love your video's Erin. I'm so glad I found you.

Very nice home, congrats! And you're lucky, in the sense that last time I was in Mexico (Puerto Vallarta) in 2013, the dollar was worth 13 Mexican Pesos. Now it's around 19 or 20 pesos, so you can buy a lot more with dollars. Then again, in PV one buys and rents real estate in dollars, so maybe not a difference there. But supermarkets, restaurants, etc, was in pesos. Not sure how it is in Guanajuato.

The so-called Mexicans are the tribe of Issachar in the bible. They are the Children of Israel, descendants of Abraham. A rich heritage awaits them should they return to the laws. Teachings of their heritage is found at GOCC (Gathering of Christ Church). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRMU4tqdGHg

I like how Mexico has the bars on windows that are decorative, I live in an area in Texas although considered low crime you cannot open windows on first floor and leave them open as houses get broke into all the time so we just don't even on the second floor rarely. Big difference in price too from other house.
