NEVER TOO SMALL ep.8 40m2 Apartment Design – Apartment 6

it’s got a very high ceiling so we’ve really seen the design as Inserting a little hybrid pod with a mezzanine loft bedroom over the top Which freed up the rest of the space to make it feel a lot more spacious. The history of this building is it’s a Victorian era building It has four shops and seven apartments. This happens to be the residual one at the end Which is underneath the hip and it’s about 40m2 in size. What we’ve really done is expressed the ceilings and the Trust’s within the design by inserting a little pod with hybrid spaces that incorporating all the dining room, the kitchen and the services and even the bathroom The kitchen for instance being loaded off a hallway, rather than being its own space We’ve gone for 1/2 module dishwasher and we’ve gone for 1/2 module sink and kept everything sort of compact in that but still got plenty of bench space there and decent-sized pantry and the little hidden appliance cabinet which you know creates quite a functional chef’s kitchen as we would describe it Within that very confined space and ceiling area we’ve had to use an unconventional Japanese stair – to get up there and It was so tight that we actually ended up putting a 10mm plate steel landing in the staircase which actually formulates the ceiling of the shower in the bathroom We’ve incorporated a dining facility into that which can be used as a study during the day and has multi functions in that aspect We’ve got beautiful sunlight northern orientation in the living area which makes it feel big and spacious while the other functions are extremely tightly designed it feels overall like it big comfortable space to be in and I imagine you can have a party here with 30 or 40 people and it would still feel like a decent sort of space.

This is my favourite never too small house so far. I just need to save some money so I can have one of my own.

I have lived in one apartment of 25 m2 and one of 35 m3 and my father used to have one at 40 m2. This design provides no extra functionality over a traditional floor plan what so ever.

I noticed The DJEMBE? I own an apartment,no musical instruments to be played! However…I do have a DJEMBE sitting in the lounge. And I have tapped,on the odd occasion. 🙂

do people who aren't designers really live in homes like these? or are they made more for artistic creation, like at over the top fashion shows?

Jan 1, 2019, 11:26 pm Reply

Loved all the natural light.
But you would have to close all the blinds when you go to bed. Bit of a drawback with a loft design.

Jan 1, 2019, 12:28 pm Reply

40m square meters is more than enough for 2 person living
In asia for 2 person room and many houses are common, only got 27 square meters only

For me? 40m enough for me to accomodate 4 person living or whole family with 2 bed room

What is it with architects who think there is no need for window coverings?

I love it, but it only really works because of the windows, windows, windows… 🙂 I downsized from 2112 to 749 square feet, but only 2 big windows, one on each end, no windows in the kitchen area or bathroom, so the middle is a bit dark. I still LOVE it.. because the size makes me not feel closed in… but anything smaller needs MORE WINDOWS.. Yours is beautiful designed too. 🙂

0:31 Only a frigging architect (who himself probably just lives in a 140+ m2 house) puts a tv all the way to the left instead of in front of the actual couch you tend to sit on…. Argh.
All in all it looks nice: without any stuff in it. I see no books, clothing, personal belongings. This is just a nice looking showroom.

Considering the limitations caused by the windows, the layout is quite good, but having two corridors in such a small space is not that the best use of space. Shifting the pod next to the windows, although it would cut across them, would have allowed direct light into both the bathroom and bedroom through the use of opaque glass screens. The kitchen could then have been made bigger, utilising some of the space gained by combining two corridors into one. There would also have been space for a large cupboard/wardrobe. I would also have fitted a glazed screen above the cooking area to reduce the smell penetration into the bedroom.
