Moving and Renting an Apartment in Spanish

Hello! How are you? I am Maria. And I am Cody. If you follow us on Instagram , you probably know that we moved a short time ago. But remember: It’s ”mudarse”. Different from ”moverse” which confuses a lot of people and they say: Voy a moverme a Los Angeles, for example But in Spanish: mudarse – to move house. Probably you have problems with the word ”arrendar” to rent. Yes, well. You can say two words…well, two of many words to say ”to rent”. One is ”arrendar” and the other is ”alquilar”. Yes. Arrendar or alquilar is when a company or a person offers their house or apartment for other people and now listen to this. Cody: ”Tomar en arriendo” ”Tomar en arriendo” or ”tomar en alquiler”. And ”tomar en” Yes. ”Tomar en arriendo” or ”tomar en alquiler”, Is what you and I did. We rented – ”tomamos en arriendo” or ”en alquiler” – an apartment. Is to say that we are going to pay a person for using their property To rent. All right now, let’s start. Welcome. How can I help you?
Thank you. I am looking for an apartment. – Sure. Have a seat.
– okay. Thank you. So, and when do you need the apartment? For the first of next month. Now let me see… And tell me: how many people will live in the apartment? Just my wife and I.
Oh I see Good. We have one or two room apartments. What do you prefer?
– I’m looking for something small. One room is fine. Good. We have this 600 square foot apartment for 1100 dollars per month and water fees are included in the rental price, if you want we can go and look at one. Yes. I would like to see it. Thank you. Okay, this is the apartment. It has a living room, a dining room, a kitchen… The apartment includes the stove, the fridge, the microwave oven, and the dishwasher. Through here is the bedroom. It has a walk-in closet. It is a very very big closet. This is the bathroom. The apartment has carpet now but we are going to do remodeling and we are going to change the carpet for linoleum floor like in the dining room and there is central air conditioning. A question…do you have pets? Yes. We have a dog. Okay, we collect 20 dollars more each month per pet and you need to pay a 300 dollar deposit for the pet. That’s fine. And what do i need for renting the apartment? Okay. We ask for the last three pay check receipts of your current employment, a copy of your ID and you need to complete the applicacion form with your personal information. That’s good. Well. I am going to see other apartments and later I can make a decision Of course. This is my card if you have more questions Call me or write me. Good thank you very much. Well and that is all for today’s video.
Hopefully it has provided the expressions And vocabulary that we use when renting a place. And remember: if you want to learn a language, Por qué no español? Chao..

Thank you guys for what you do. I am living in Armenia Colombia for 6 months this year. I am trying to learn español but I still struggle with comprehension. What drew me to your channel is Maria’s accent. Your Spanish is very close to what I hear every day. Your channel helps me a lot!! And Cody, you give me great hope because of the improvements I see you making with each video. Keep ‘me coming!

I think it is better to give the English translation, in the subtitles, later. I like to figure out the Spanish translation myself, first.

Great videos!
Immersion is the best way to learn a language. I learned more Spanish during 18 hours in jail in Líbano, Tolima than 6 months on my phone with DuoLingo. la policía de Libano no habla inglés 😉

It never fails: if a word has two meanings in a student's first language, but those two meanings have two different words in a second language, the student will misuse one of those words in the second language.
That's why we are always confusing "ser" and "estar."
Korean students of English are often say "I have a promise" to mean "I have an appointment," because their language has the same word for "promise" and "appointment."
In Chinese, the words for "he" and "she" are written differently but pronounced the same.
So if a Chinese person ever refers to you by the wrong gender pronoun, please don't be offended.
