Why does this news station even have a YouTube channel. It costs more money to upload the video than it does pay the small amount of electricity that it takes to run the computer they used to upload.

that sucks but its an apartment, move far away. too many people convinced they need to live in the Las Vegas region with no real purpose or reason to be there.

that's under the assumption the fire was caused by the tenants. it was caused by a contractor the tenants aren't liable for it.

That's wrong the tenants of the smoke damaged apartment should not be made to pay higher rent for another apartment

Nothing wrong with this at all. A complaint would be valid if the owner refused to quit the contract and demanded that the tenants continue paying rent, however in this case precisely the opposite is happening.

The landlord doing that is illegal, landlord owns it but the tenants have rights that protect them.

I don't think the law was intended for this type of situation. If the landlord owns and identical apartment with identical features and an identical location they shouldn't be allowed to charge more, especially if the fire was their fault.

ok i'm a landlord and what this apartment complex has done is allowed by law. I will admit that they could have been a little nicer but in reality that doesn't matter. Yes it sucks that their place was damaged by fire but you can't let emotion trump judgment. As for them wanting to charge them more rent it's likely that the market rate is higher than it was when they first rented the place. This is something that is happening in my area as well. If you don't want to deal with the callousness of the rental business then you need to buy a home and if you are unable to do so then you need to deal with it. Rentals are a business and it has to be treated that way. Homes and things can be replaced and fighting them for following the law is fruitless. Spend the energy on getting your life put back together.

Never heard of rent going down & it's months or years later so pay or move !

The right thing to do is rent them the other apt at their old rate for the balance of their lease, 4 months. If they choose to stay after 4 months, their rent goes up as it would be a new lease.

that landlord is heartless. no morale, no humanity.

a FIRE forces the people from the only home they knew and the landlord says "Either move to another one and pay MORE than what you were, or get out. I could care less about your wellbeing"

somebody smack some sense into this landlord. PLEASE

Ye but what your missing out is that the other unit could cost more.
The other building could be worth more or cost more to have and so If they moved over and didn't pay the extra money the landlord could be losing money.

solution: set fire to the management office, burn up their copy of leases, and leave them to pick up the pieces. Some second wrongs do make rights-

no matter what this video says what this apartment complex is doing is 100% illegal. you cant deny someone access to what belongs to them. by changing the locks and saying they need permission to go there, that is keeping them from what belongs to them.
