I had never heard of the term "deep house" until now. This was interesting! 🤓
There is no set beat in house music and I would like to stress that
its weird how house branched in to other genres to. when you here old hardcore then that slowly became jungle then dnb. now from one genre of edm there is like 100 sub genres from acid house to minimal dnb and even dubstep.
All music today is a derivative from classical music. ITs not about developing it its about using it to provide for todays audience!
206 south jefferson street!!!!!😁😁😁🏠🎶🏠🎶🏠🎶🏠🎶🎶🏠🎶 aka : the warehouse!!!! HOUSE MUSIC 4 LIFE!!!!!
Larry Heard – Rhyme or reason EP
Jesse saunders invented house in Chicago not that knuckles guy
The US made it, South Africa owned it. Thanks once again, America.🇺🇸+🇿🇦=🏘️🎵
Is the narrator the same one as in that love death robots episode "zima blue"?
Know we know where Kanye west stealing all his swag from. Wow 😮 smh that’s crazy
Please do more genres!!
Hell yeah! Black people make that shit
For the longest I’ve been trying to find out who made the song “move your body”. Today I randomly watch this docu and here it is lol!!
Proper!!! Anyone knows that piano piece on 5:31 ???
I love how they say Mr. Heard's music is similar to the Eurostuff that claims to be house…
GTFOH! Larry Heard was taking House deep while Europe was still staring at their shoes.
That's just like Jazz: They didn't get it until Louis Armstrong went overseas – and became a sensation.
If "Moxie" had any real moxie he(she/it?) would have their facts straight. smh
Feeling what he said. Don’t follow. Create your own flow.
what's the song that plays right as the video starts?
Man honey. Records no. Oakland California with the singer Sylvester should get props for first house musicaaaaaaaaan 1978 ..1979…don't hate on Sylvester because he got sick
N.Y.C. & San Francisco had the HiNrg. Miami had the Freestyle. Chicago made House music from parts of above genres
She didn't Live it…. She just "Heard" about it. But great mini-documentary though.
It's extra weird to have what sounds like a "young" "British" white girl doing a voice over for"deep house" . We would have never imagined that! R.I.P Ron Hardy The Muzic Box
Thank you for the great video. Shared lovingly.
Can someone please tell Moxie how to pronounce 'Satie' properly 😜
On my way
leads to confusion yes… just like most things blacks do in music as soon as wht ppl get hold of it they fck it up and change its name to suit their own needs… they did it with R&B… got rollin stones fans telling me they're r&b… I'm like get the fuck-outta here!!! they did it with house… look what that turned out to be… they did it with Drum and bass and totally fucked that scene up… i wish they'd just leave things alone and stop trying to label and pidgeon hole stuff. there is only 4 types of popular music… good and bad black music good and bad wht music – period! leave the genres for shmocks and trifling motherfuckers!
An education in 8 minutes.
Wow, they dissed the hell out of me.
I initially had a hard time with the vocals. Now I still cherish my Fingers Inc. Vinyls.
What's the name of the track at the very beginning?
Timeless trax from a true legend of real house music….its a spiritual thing, a body thing, a soul thing…
Started in 77Dropped first song in 1984….FREEMASONRY
"Say you won't ever."
Tks for for enhancing my education!
Lets be honest, black people create and white people just take.
To the idiots who still thing that today's deep house is labeled false: it's not. It's still deep house, it just has evolved. We're not in the pre-2000's anymore and music has become crazy complex compared to back then.I'm glad, that it evolved from this garbage to actually enjoyable and melodic music
The sonic sound on this song is just simply incredible …… 5:41And this is on my laptop speakers, I can't imagine it on a high defprofessional speaker systems with surround sound mind blowing.
Black people invented house music.
Fast forward to 2019, where we now have a "deep house" station on Sirius XM radio that doesn't play any black house producers, a "top 100 house DJs" list compiled by a publication that only has black producers at the #99 and #100 spot, ABC News putting out a news report of David Guetta touring in America as "David Guetta BRINGS HOUSE MUSIC to America", and little white kids who go to "EDM" concerts throwing a rage fit when you tell them that "EDM", once called techno, a harder version of house music, was invented by black people.
Nice to see a video where we are ACTUALLY represented as the originators of the genre.
Thank you GTA for putting me on to house music when nobody did
Its that chord in Can you feel it. Just gave it that lean back edge which can only be achieved with a soul
I really admire and geek for a guy like Larry Heard, thanks for posting this video!
1:33 my. mind. is. blown. I never knew where Ye got that sample from and 3 years later after getting super into a different genre the dots are connecting for me
2:31 WOW that sounds like Electric Feel by MGMT
can you feeeeeeel it ?!! <3
GO VON DEEPAH DILLON
Larry Heard – A real house legend right there. Those that know, know!
I don’t like house that muchI love garage though
Cool to know the origins
When I heard Kanye's song I knew the beginning was epic. Didn't know it was literally the first house track. Great video!
3:47 "The bass line uses clusters of notes." Ugh, please! Bit difficult to do otherwise if you're gonna make a tune.
Thank you Larry Heard. South Africa loves you.
4:08 that picture shows the dictation and the commitment. These people got nothing but the music. Respect
I remember buying "Introduction" by Mr. Fingers off of someone's neglect to buy it two weeks before I did in a record store in Hazelwood, Mo. in the early 90's!!Still have it!!!
Quite interesting, thank you!
🤨🤨 wtf? House Music was literally made in South Africa in the 60s
Lost in House….
What’s the font in the thumbnail?
'Where the song feels right, It's where its feels right'…#QFT
Most of the new stuff that masquerades as deep house isnt deep house. It's barely even recognisable as house music to me. Its dogshit compared to proper deep house.
I fucking love Larry Heard. Hero
DeBOOSY and SAYTEE
We the People
This channel is way too good to only have ~200k subscribers, this is YouTube at its best, TV tier documentary on topics that otherwise wouldn't make it on there while still retaining a somewhat amateur (in a good way) editing styleWonderful channel
That intro baseline….
Real house music!
Love it. It was deep concept
It had such a feeling back in the day, we need to bring it back to cheer us up!
OMG Such a DEEEP and Technical presentation…Looooove It!!!
Those chord extensions on Can you Feel it sent music though a door no one had ever entered.
Deep does apply to trance to techno. Only this here
"Can yoy feel it"S2
WHAT A LEDGEND. I PURCHASED ALL OF HIS MUSIC FROM DAY 1
I reckon that the 'deep' part of house is the part that makes you feel just slightly sad/nostalgic/longing, but the song still makes you feel good. A strange blending of sadness and euphoria.
Quirky, Introverted, Humble & Pure Genius!
He said "synthesizer." He's def for real.
This guy looks like he could be Kaytranada's dad! Bless his groovy soul!
As a drum and bass guy It is interesting to learn about DJs that are famous from other genres
Wow, American…..I would of guessed english
5:07 Da Bussy and Say T, those famous French rappers.
CHICAGO HOUSE PARTY IN '84 ON THE WEST SIDE BY CERMAK & KEDZIE💓 THANKS BROTHE BEST PARTY OF MY LIFE💯
Someone please make a ringtone of 3:55
Cool music history lesson…really like this kind of content. Ty Larry Heard!
I’ve never felt sad…you feel purified of neglect
Uh why does that beginning part sound like aquarius by Oliver heldens
Not tryna be edgy here I'm being cereal u guys. But most music classed as "deep house" doesn't feel like it's house but deeper, every bone in my body feels like it should be called shallow house.
The build ups are much more quicker, There's less of range in sound and volume the beats feel shallow as opposed to classic house tracks.
Nothing will be as deep and moody as old house, "deep house" ain't all that very deep!
Nahre Sol where you at?!
Deep house is underground Disco. They played a little of it in this video, Dr. love by first choice at 2:46. I loved the warehouse, Randolph and Halstead in Chicago. Deep truly is the arranging and mixing of Disco – another name we call it was under ground Disco. It is digging deep in the crates and getting the tracks that may not have made the radio. Mystery of love was the s**t, so was can you feel it, but that's not deep house from chicago. It is the most that makes it deep. Listen to do Wayne Williams on YouTube and the other chosen few DJ. They are deep.
Is he still making music?
Real deep house – That shit takes you to another realm.
New “deep house” – Shit sounds like sped up elevator music
This video is amazing!!! Nobody will understand where House Music takes me. Indescribable music ❤️
From the 80s-90s & my time attending a HBCU, we used to call it club music (set it off by strafe) & house music (move your body by marshall jefferson). Now I see people call it dance and trance. When hip hop be bop (man parish) came out in the 80s, we thought it was a hip hop song; but it wasn't, it was electronic. But our radio stations played it all the time.
This Just Gave Me Sooooo Much Lyfe!!
