Duren Residence Hall

>Welcome to Duren, our newest residence hall – named for one of UT’s prominent leaders in campus integration: Almetris “Mama” Duren. Located on the North end of campus in the Whitis Area community, Duren serves as home to over 570 residents. Duren is conveniently located along Guadalupe Street, known as “the Drag,” where there are lots of shops, restaurants, and activities. It’s also just across the street from Kinsolving Dining. Let’s go take a look inside! Recently built in 2007, Duren features new, beautiful tile flooring and exposed red oak beams in the lobby, that give it a warm, rich feeling. The formal lounge is well equipped for group meetings, as a study space, or for rehearsal on our piano. The 24 hour help desk is always ready to answer questions or lend out movies or kitchen equipment. And your mail can be picked up just around the corner. Duren has shared and single space rooms, both with private or connecting baths. Every room in Duren comes with a bed, dresser, bookshelf, closet, desk, and chair for each individual. And each room has its own microfridge. There are also lockable drawers. With moveable furniture, each of us has the space and freedom to design our room exactly as we want. My room is a shared space with a private bath, meaning that the bathroom is used by just me and my roommate. While we’re responsible for cleaning it, we get to personalize it to our own liking. Downstairs, the laundry room is extra spacious and easy to use, whether you have quarters, or are swiping your ID to access your Bevo Bucks. The game room is the perfect place to hang out with friends, and our exercise room brings the gym to you. If you’re looking for a nice place to get work done, there are special study lounges on each floor. Or you can head outside to our private courtyard to enjoy Austin’s gorgeous weather. The bottom level features the Texas Rivers Room. This space is often used for exciting events put on by the Residence Hall Programming staff. Although there aren’t dining facilities inside Duren, just across the street is the all-you-care-to-eat buffet in Kinsolving. Here you can get a full meal for just a swipe of you ID. Or if you’re looking for something a bit more on-the-go, you can stop by Kins Market, or check out Littlefield Patio Café just down the street. Both locations accept Dine in Dollars and Bevo Bucks and host a variety of foods. Check out the online menu to see what’s cooking today! With its quieter, north campus location and its easy access to shopping, restaurants, and activities, Duren’s an exciting place, where you’re sure to make friends. Thanks for taking the time to visit Duren with me. I hope I’ll see you here soon!
