THE CHILDREN HAD SERIOUS INJURIES THAT THEY WERE ALL TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL TO BE CHECKED OUT. IT HAS BEEN NEARLY 2 YEARS SINCE A MASSIVE FIRE SWEPT THROUGH DOWNTOWN RALEIGH. YOU COULD SEE JUST HOW INTENSE THE FLAMES WERE IN THE VIDEO. IT DAMAGED AT LEAST 10 BUILDINGS AND RIPPED THROUGH A HIGH RISE APARTMENT COMPLEX UNDER CONSTRUCTION. TODAY THE COMPLEX OPENED ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME. WE TALKED WITH PEOPLE LIVING AT THE METROPOLITAN, AND ITS JOURNEY UP UNTIL THIS POINT. Reporter: STAFF AT THE METROPOLITAN SAY THIS COMPLEX WAS 50% COMPLETE AND STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION BEFORE BURNING TO THE GROUND. AFTER NEARLY 2 YEARS OF REBUILDING, PEOPLE ARE NOW MOVING INTO THEIR NEW HOME. WHEN WE TOURED THE BUILDING IT WAS STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION, SO WE DID THE HARDHATS AND THE VEST AND TIM RUTLEDGE IS MOVING INTO THE METROPOLITAN WEST JONES DISTRIBUTE WHEN I MENTIONED WHERE I WAS DOING THIS IS THAT THE BUILDING THAT CAUGHT FIRE? THAT’S HOW I KNOW SOME OF THE STORY. Reporter: IT WAS JUST A BIG BONFIRE. IT WAS FULL OF TWO BY FOURS. NICHOLAS ROGERS REMEMBERS WATCHING THE FIRE IN MARCH 2017 FROM HIS APARTMENT AT THE LINK NEXT ORBIT THEY JUST COLLAPSE IN EVERY THING WAS COLLAPSING PIECE BY PIECE BY PIECE. Reporter: EASES THE FIRE LEFT AN IMPACT ON THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IT SHUT DOWN THINGS AROUND HERE FOR A SHORT TIME. BUSINESSES STARTED LOSING CAMINO, CUSTOMERS AND STUFF. Reporter: A NEW BUILDING, HAS RISEN FROM THE ASHES. WHAT TIME DID YOU OPEN THIS MORNING? 9 AM. Reporter: WHAT WAS IT LIKE? AMAZING, HUGE WEIGHT OFF MY SHOULDER. Reporter: STAFF BELIEVE THE COMPLEX WILL ADD MORE LIFE TO THE AREA. FOR EVERYONE WE SEE IT AS A WIN-WIN AND BASICALLY LIFE FOR FOLKS THAT YOU KNOW, WERE LIVING AROUND HERE IN THIS SECTION IS BACK TO NORMAL AGAIN. Reporter: THINGS ARE PICKING UP AND WITH THE NEW BUILDING HERE, TRAFFIC WILL START TO PICK UP. YOU WILL SEE MORE PEOPLE WALKING AND STUFF LIKE THAT. THE METROPOLITAN’S PROPERTY MANAGER ALSO TOLD ME WHEN REBUILDING THEY TOOK EXTRA MEASURES WHEN IT COMES TO FIRE SAFETY.
