[Narrator] With the rising cost of energy and the need to conserve
our precious resources a sustainable home is
becoming a highly desirable and more economical option long term. Check out our list of
incredible eco-friendly homes. But, before we begin,
don’t forget to subscribe to Minds Eye Design for
more amazing content and ring that bell to become part of our awesome notification team. (electronic music) Number 11: Big Box. This eco-friendly, prefab home
has everything you would need plus much, much more. Some key features include
under floor heating, smart device controlled
entertainment, lighting and heating, industrial lighting fixtures
and even ceiling speakers. With all these cool features what makes it eco-friendly you ask? Well, the home has reclaimed
wood exterior and flooring, a green roof planted with wildflowers and a 3.8 kilowatt peak system that can supply 50% of energy needs and includes a battery for night use. Number 10: Zoom. This next house was a collaboration with MIT’s Open Source Building Alliance and other industry
partners who came together to start the open prototype initiative. Since the college’s focus
is environmental studies the home had to achieve both net zero and LEED platinum ratings. Its airtight design and
construction virtually eliminates drafts and outside noise. The home is also designed
to maximize natural light and solar gain which means
the temperature remains even throughout the home. Number nine: The HO4+. These energy efficient
prefabs are made with up to four 40 foot shipping containers. The company allows you to
choose from a few options ranging from two to three bedrooms. Both floor plans feature
a large living room, dinning room and full kitchen finished out with 29 feet
of floor to ceiling glass. In addition, they are
solar photovoltaic ready and include a highly efficient air source pump for heating and cooling. Number eight: The Curved House. This modern home is designed around the shape of you thus the name Curved House. This home offers a beautiful courtyard with a walk-in pool and custom fire pit for a private retreat with some
friends or someone special. The home was designed in a
way which provides natural day lighting and views in every room. It also includes a photovoltaic array on the cabana roof, a geothermal system and radiant floor heating throughout. This is definitely a
house I could call home. Number seven: Minimod. I you looking for a home away home? If so, this is probably the one. Made from a standard shipping container this prefab is designed for the inhabitant to be able to take in
all the beauty of nature. On one side you have a
beautiful open bedroom with a single bed and on the other a completely open shower surrounded in glass. In the middle is your living area slash dining and kitchen. The simple design can be
placed almost anywhere with minimal environmental footprint. (relaxed music) Number six: Sky Garden House. When we first came across our next home we really thought it was a concept home. With a little research we
found out it was the real deal. The Sky House truly looks like a garden house set in the sky. The sweeping grass roof overlooks a harbor and is set apart from the
other homes in the neighborhood with the help of the unique design and plenty of greenery behind the walls. Each floor of the house
has a grass covered roof separating it from the
floor above and below. The stories are connected on the inside by a vast spiral staircase
that runs through the center of the house allowing for
a feeling of openness. The only thing is how do
cut the grass on the roof? What do you guys think? Would you live in a home like this? Let us know in the comments below. Number five: Floating House. This next home is my personal favorite. Most people search for
homes that have a pool. Why do that when you can have a home that’s surrounded
by crystal clear water. Their website says the
Floating House was designed for people who appreciate
freedom and nature at their doorstep. Yep, I’m sold. It offers two luxurious bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and a generous terrace. The seamless connection with surroundings is achieved with minimal intervention offering the highest
level of sustainability. Number four: The Villa. The villa creates a new dialogue between temporary living and a completely
new experience of space. Built from premium materials,
this incredible living space meets the highest standards in design, craftsmanship
and sustainability. Cutting edge material defines the building’s overall concept. From a solar heat installation on the roof to a rainwater collection system. Among the interior’s amenities
is a kitchen ensemble situated in the grand room
with a custom made island. Overall the building
isn’t just eco-friendly but it’s a work of art. Number three: The Waste House. Don’t judge a book by its cover. That statement holds a lot of truth when it comes to our number three home. Constructed at the University
of Brighton’s Grand Campus, The Waste House is an ongoing experiment which aims to prove there
is no such thing as waste, just stuff in the wrong place. Around 90% of the materials
used are in fact waste products. This included anything from
thousands of toothbrushes, denim jeans, 4000 DVD
cases, 2000 floppy disks and 2000 used carpet tiles. In addition, 4000 VHS video cassettes are used as wall insulation. A hundred sheets of
used and damaged plywood are also used for flooring
and other structural purposes. Wow! That’s a lot of stuff. Number two: The Fall House. The Fall House sports a copper facade that will weather over time
as it comes into contact with the sea air giving it an aged pattern or look. The copper is also designed to offer a degree of fire protection. In addition to its beautiful views the two story Fall House
features an open design that naturally encourages stack ventilation and also has energy efficient windows that automatically open to help reduce the need for air conditioning. A gray water recycling
system is also installed to compliment the nearby stream. So with the modern look,
state of the art tech and a beach out back I would definitely take
this one for a summer home. Number one: Core 9. This home is built using
a zero waste philosophy incorporating the use of
recycled and upcycled materials while also adopting a building process that produces minimal waste. The interior of the home boasts large floor to ceiling windows,
polished concrete flooring and in-built timber furnishings. The home’s building materials
were also chosen for their high quality,
durability and long life span. Further, the Core 9 home
incorporates the use of a solar hot water system,
rainwater harvesting and solar power. The roof is fitted with a
series of photovoltaic panels and it is anticipated the
home’s annual energy costs will be as little as $70
to run all year long. That’s why the Core 9 is
number one on our list of eco-friendly homes. [Amber] Hey guys. This is Amber. Hoe you guys enjoyed the video. You can help out by

So it's clear poor people can't be eco-friendly: you have to be very rich to be able to buy one of these houses. But regarding our world's health it's no use if only the 10% richest people go and live eco-friendly, you know that.

Best cost effective and practical home was the HO4 house IMO. 4 shipping containers used in the construction makes this home very solid and the shoe box square design means easy construction with no crazy (and expensive $$$) features that builders will charge you extra for. The problem may be securing a construction contractor that's affiliated with HO4 near you. Core 9 is also nice and looks pretty staight forward but all those extra systems and the high quality materials raise the price. The in-built furnishings means hiring a specialized carpenter which is not cheap.

Easy way to cut grass on the roof is to build eco friendly helicopter with steam engine. I didn't saw nothing that was eco friendly in these houses they still consume energy for heating + cooling + electricity(no solar panels or low electricity consumption solution was showed that means more eco nuclear power stations must be build ?) + produce waist when you wash dishes or clothes when you take shower and produce other waste unles they using herbs and natural washing components to do so instead using chemicals that kills environment.
Using tapes for insulation and old pallets or plastics for building houses that is the best way your family get cancer quicker.
Other thing these houses not growing any food for occupiers which make me think they will buy food in plastic bags packets which are very eco friendly also as cartons or paper that maded from killed trees.
Most of Those houses is massive and the square meters are wasted inside unles owners have 12 kids for those 3 or 4 store houses…
but if only 3 or 4 persons live in hoses like this you can imagine how much these monster houses consuming energy for heating or cooling ? are they collecting rain water?
…. i dont understand why they are eco friendly?
Because they are made from toxic waste?
Or because they have large windows? (besidess large windows gives you more light? but with large windows in winter consuming more energy to heat the house)
Or because they growing useless gras on roof on balconies instead of growing vegetables?

Many words seem to be left out of the written script here. Ie “ground source pump” should be “ground source HEAT pump”
At 1:03 she says “it has a 3.8 kilowatt peak system” WHATS A “peak system”? I think the word “solar” was left out.
At 7:50 , the word is pronounced “Pateenah”
At 9:20 “the home’s annual energy cost will be $70 to run all year long”…um…that’s what “annual” means.
You can eliminate one of those to keep from sounding redundant.

Many more “close but no prize”s all the way thru…nice topic,, but it’s obvious the reader needs more education on the matter at-hand

While I understand these are trying to show innovation, they don't seem practical at all. #5 house seems unrealistic at best. Even after going to the website, it isn't explained how the home is powered or how the house manages water waste/sewage etc. How does one move a floating structure like this? How do you get to and from the home? How secure is the home? How does the home handle/react inclement weather? This mostly looks like homes for individuals that have multiple homes and can afford to live anywhere without regard to working for a living. Mainly fantasy homes.
